Jessica Rose Phillips (née Trainor) was born on 9 October 1981. She is a British politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Birmingham Yardley since 2015. Phillips is a member of the Labour Party and has held various shadow cabinet positions, including Shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities (2015-2017), Shadow Minister for Domestic Violence and Safeguarding (2017-2018), and Shadow Secretary of State for the Home Department (2018-2020). In April 2020, she was appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Phillips has been outspoken on a range of issues, including sexism, domestic violence, and poverty. She is a co-founder of the Labour Women's Declaration group and has been a vocal critic of the Conservative government's austerity policies. In 2019, she announced her candidacy for the Labour Party leadership election, but withdrew before the first round of voting.

Deputy Leader and Shadow Deputy Prime Minister

In May 2020, Phillips was elected Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, alongside Keir Starmer. She is also the Shadow Deputy Prime Minister and Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
