RACE RESULT

Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes took the long-awaited victory in the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix - after a thrilling race that also saw a late safety car period and a dramatic crash. It was Hamilton's first win of the season, and it moved him up to second in the championship standings. Sergio Perez of Red Bull Racing finished second, and Carlos Sainz Jr. of Ferrari finished third.

The frontrunners in each Constructor have all increased their lead. Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and George Russell all failed to finish in Monaco. This promoted Sergio Perez, Carlos Sainz, and Lewis Hamilton to the podium.

The race was incident-packed from the start. On the first lap, there was a collision between Nicholas Latifi of Williams and Lance Stroll of Aston Martin. This caused a safety car period, which lasted for several laps.

The race was restarted on lap 8, and Hamilton quickly took the lead. He was followed by Perez, Sainz, and Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing. Verstappen was the fastest driver on track, but he was unable to overtake Hamilton.

On lap 28, there was another safety car period after a crash involving Mick Schumacher of Haas. This gave Verstappen a chance to close the gap to Hamilton. However, Hamilton was able to hold on to his lead, and he crossed the line to win the race.
