Argentina Begin Copa America Defense with Victory over Canada
Canada Prepare for Colossal Semi-Final Showdown
Defending Champions Start Strong in Atlanta
Argentina kicked off their Copa America title defense with a 2-0 victory over Canada at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Sunday. The defending champions dominated the match, controlling possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities.
Canada, who are preparing for a colossal semi-final showdown against Argentina on Tuesday, struggled to find a foothold in the match. Their coach, Jesse Marsch, likened the challenge to a David v. Goliath battle.
Prior to the opening match of Copa America 2024, Argentina and Canada had met once in their history, in a 2010 friendly at Estadio Monumental. Canada will need to improve their performance significantly if they want to pull off an upset in the semi-finals.
